Description

This celadon-glazed dish was discovered during a 2013 archaeological excavation at the Imperial Citadel (Thành Hoàng Đế) site and is currently housed at the Binh Dinh Provincial Museum (now the Gia Lai Provincial Museum).

It is a medium-sized dish featuring a slightly flared rim with a rounded edge; the upper body bulges slightly before tapering toward the base. The base is low and slightly curved, with an inwardly beveled profile. Slight deformation occurred during firing, resulting in a somewhat warped body. The dish has a thin, fine-grained ceramic body that is hard and durable due to high-temperature firing. The entire interior and a narrow band of the exterior near the rim are coated in a pale grey-green celadon glaze, while the rest of the exterior remains unglazed. The dish bears no decorative patterns.

It was hand-shaped using a potter's wheel, then glazed, dried, and fired at high temperatures, utilizing a stacking technique (nesting) during the firing process. Designed for daily use—primarily for holding and serving food—this artifact provides valuable insight into the material life and ceramic production techniques of the inhabitants of the Do Ban Citadel.
